Aims and Objectives

Aerospace demands the highest standards of professionalism and the ever increasing competitive pressures to achieve world class performance are bringing renewed emphasis on the need for professional development on the part of aerospace practitioners of all disciplines. The professional institutions have a responsibility to respond to this need in a coordinated manner and indeed play a vital role in the development of all disciplines involved.

The RAeS has members in all disciplines of aerospace, whilst The IET and IMechE have a professional network and a division, respectively, bringing together their particular specialists in aerospace.

There is a need to ensure that the Institutions are perceived as being of relevance to and meet the needs of current and future aerospace practitioners. Depending on their specific interests, disciplinary speciality and career aspirations, aerospace professionals may elect to choose to become a member of one or more of the relevant institutions. Whatever their choice, the Institutions need to ensure that they have access to the widest possible portfolio of aerospace professional activities and services. For this reason significant cooperation exists between three bodies with joint events and interchange of ideas.

The Aerospace Partnership has been developed in response to the foregoing needs. It aims to harmonise the various strengths of the constituent Institutions in devising and implementing their programmes of activities in support of the aerospace community. This will encompass such activities as conferences, lectures, courses, information services, publications and public affairs. The harmonisation process will aim to avoid conflict or duplication of events, to promote joint ventures wherever this is advantageous and to maximise the visibility of such activities to the widest possible audience.

The specific aims and objectives of the Partnership are:

  • to bring together the particular skills and strengths of the three Institutions.
  • to provide and publicise a coordinated programme of events and joint ventures.
  • where realistic and appropriate, to provide a common voice on aerospace topics and coordinated responses to requests for professional comment in the aerospace field.
